Victoria BC Maternity Photography – Rebecca

The weather gods were really working in our favour this day for Rebecca’s Victoria BC Maternity Photography Session. The wind was howling, the clouds were storming, and the sun was struggling to be seen behind it all. In a metaphorical way, I feel like these photos sum up pregnancy so beautifully. The wildness, the bliss AND the chaos… but what stands out above all is the pure and utter beauty.

All women experience pregnancy differently. Chatting with Rebecca, we had similar experiences in that it hasn’t been/wasn’t always easy. There’s no denying the miraculous thing that is happening to a woman’s body when she’s pregnant, but it can take a serious toll, physically and mentally.

Throughout my own pregnancy I’ve been documenting my days in a journal- writing to my little baby-to-be about what it’s been like for me to grow them. I recently went back and read some of the stuff I wrote in those earlier months. Most of it is pure awe over what’s happening inside me. The exclamations of wonder are coupled with a report on how I’ve been feeling. It’s so wild how every new week brought a new challenge. Total and complete exhaustion, lack of motivation, nausea, crying, heartburn, bloating, gagging – oh SO MUCH gagging, insomnia, and on… But through all the list of ‘symptoms’, there’s so many little illustrated hearts, and ‘I can’t wait to meet you’s’, and ‘I can’t believe I’m creating LIFE’. The most common word I noticed throughout was… this is ‘WILD’. And I think that’s why these photos of Rebecca’s Victoria BC Maternity photography session resonate with me so much, because they have a truly wild feel to them- which is exactly how I feel about the entire pregnancy experience.

My mom told me back when she was pregnant, in the cultural and social environment she grew up in, it was somewhat ‘taboo’ to show your pregnant belly. Women were expected to hide it… As you can imagine, I think that’s total B S, and I’m so glad that’s not the cultural norm here anymore. Being pregnant is such a transforming time in a woman’s life, it is SO important to let it show and let it shine!

Thank you my dear friend Rebecca for having me photograph your amazingly beautiful baby bump. Click here to see more maternity sessions, and get in touch to document your life-creating pregnant body!
